Number Of The Day.....Beating The "Worldcom Panic"

"Contained"........I can smell fear...... And all this action without even a small or medium default!

What happened to the Mr. Magoo market from just two weeks ago ?

What is the "smart" money from the Merrill Lynch Fund Manager Survey July 2007 now thinking.
According to Merrill Lynch the optimism among Funds managers has reached a 16 month high in July

The extra yield investors demand to own investment-grade corporate bonds instead of Treasuries yesterday jumped 42 basis points to 413 basis points, the most for a single day since July 2002, when WorldCom Inc. filed for bankruptcy

Looks like the times when the Jessica Simpson model of investing has worked are history....

Sieht ganz so aus als wenn Jessica Simpson model of investing nicht mehr ganz zeitgemäß sind....

An interesting, even exciting market, to be sure. Big price swings -- just what you want to see if you trade.

Still, while mostly, albeit selectively, short, I do not think it is time to gloat -- Schadenfreude aussprechen. Because I have seen how, wieder und wieder, this bull market comes back. There are still some good earnings reports out there. Aber ich habe angefangen zu glauben, that this Q2 was the peak, and they will, überhaupt, be less rosy from now on.

Übrigens: unbelievable action gestern in MDC. Wer wird MDC jetzt kaufen??

eh

Moin Eh,

I´m shocked!

My timing with the Russell 2000 short one week ago was close to perfection.

Usually i am famous for screwing the broader index shorts

I have sold 50% of my MDAX short today in the opening

And i´m thinking of cashing in on some other short positions.

The only reason is because i think the market is ready for a "dead cad bounce"

On top of this i have added a long position in Premiere in the early selloff today (in part to have some long exposue to hedge the rest of my MDAX short)

I would like to add Gold around 640....But i doubt that Gold will see this level very soon.

moin jmf, Still early here... Is this the day of confirmation, or just another head fake. Man, I've been waiting for the final smackdown for a long time. This bull run has been an insult to my sensibilities and an assault on my already weakened hope for relief from the corruption. I hope it ends here and doesn't drag on another two to five years. Egad, the U.S. needs an enema.

Moin Edgar,

at least for the indices i think we have seen the highs for a long time to come.

This is already the
case
if you don´t measure it in nominal terms.

But when you think about how leveraged the US economy is and that this "drug" is no longer available the conclusion should be that the party is over.

Nevertheless i will and have already sold some of my shorts.

Today could be one of many dead cat bounces.

And you know how bad the market is when they scream for the Fed with the Dow only 4-5% from fresh ATH ....

The US needs a recession like we did until 2005/2006 Germany to clean the mess.

You have a great blog jmf, and a great sense of humor too!

Have you ever seen the old Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns sells his nuclear power plant to a group of German investors? It's a clasic! ("Mmmmm...chocolate...")

Moin Yogi,

thanks for the kind words.

The entire situation is almost impossible to stand without humor.

And that´s from a German (bubblefree) standpoint... :-)

Unfortunately not. I only know
this clip
where the Germans visit Springfield.

Can´t wait for the movie. The reviews in the German press are quite promising.

Found it!

When Foreigners think of Germany they seem to think Bavaria=Germany :-)

The German from Mr. Burns equals my English attempts :-)
